Armed Services Memorial
In 1964, a World War II Memorial Aircraft, T-33A, was donated to the City of Lake Norden by the US Air Force. The craft was dedicated to Norris Wenum in remembrance of his service to our country during World War II.
In November of 2005, Jean Tuohino donated two thousand dollars in memory of her husband, Alvin, for maintenance of the aircraft. The generous donation prompted the beginning of a plan to renovate the aircraft and site location. An Armed Services Memorial Committee was formed by Mayor Janet Andrews. A ground-breaking ceremony was held on June 22, 2006. Jean Tuohino was present and purchased the first granite block in memory of her husband, Lieutenant Commander Alvin Elwood Tuohino who served in the US Navy.
On July 8, 2007, the Armed Services Memorial was dedicated during the City of Lake Norden's Centennial Celebration. Over one hundred-forty granit blocks have been purchased and placed on the Memorial Wall. The site, located adjacent to Memorial Park, features the renovated Memorial Aircraft, a American flag, a POW flag, flags and sihouettes representing the five branches of the Unites States Armed forces and a wall displaying the engraved granite blocks. Annually, the blocks that were purchased during the previous year are dedicated during the Memorial Day Service.
Thank you to all the men and women who have served and will serve our country in the armed forces!
